SingleMuslim.com poll: protection of personal contact details
Survey results released today have revealed that the majority of SingleMuslim.com's members follow the website's advice and only give out their personal contact details to prospective marriage partners when they are ready to take communication towards marriage further.
Members were asked at what point they consider it best to give out their personal contact details: in the very first message (5 per cent); after a few messages (17 per cent); if another member asks for contact details (6 per cent); after the other person has sent their contact details (4 per cent); or only when they are ready to take communication further (68 per cent). Over 3,000 users responded to the poll.
The survey shows that female users are more cautious, with 78 per cent responding that they would only provide contact details when they are ready to take communication further, compared to 55 per cent of men. Men are much more willing to share their information with a prospective marriage partner with 23 per cent giving their contact details after exchanging just a few messages (compared to 13 per cent of women). Worryingly, 8 per cent of men send out their personal details within their very first message, going against the advice of the website.
Users of the site are advised not to share contact details until they are comfortable communicating with someone further.
This is the first in a new series of polls to be run on SingleMuslim.com in order to better reinforce the website's values and high regard for its members' privacy and safety.
